Chapter 2 - Desire
Hill tells us "WHEN Edwin C. Barnes climbed down from the freight train in Orange, N. J.,
more than thirty years ago, he may have resembled a tramp, but his thoughts
were those of a king!
HIS THOUGHTS WERE THOSE OF A KING!
Hill tells us "Barnes’ desire was not a hope! It was not a wish! It was a keen, pulsating
DESIRE, which transcended everything else. It was DEFINITE."
We have all been told at some point in our business "that we need to act or behave
like we have already attained the success level we are working toward and You need
to be a "King" in your heart and head before you will ever attain it in reality."
Five years passed before the chance Barnes had been seeking made its appearance.
During those five years, In his mind he was not the janitor sweeping the floor, he had the
mindset of a "KING", learning all he could until the time was right for him to take his crown.
He did not say "This is taking too long".
He did not tell himself "This is too hard".
He did not settle for less than becoming a partner with Edison.
Barnes did not quit.
Barnes said, “There is but ONE thing in this world that I am determined to have, and that
is a business association with Thomas A. Edison. I will burn all bridges behind me, and
stake my ENTIRE FUTURE on my ability to get what I want.”
He left himself no possible way of retreat. He had to win or perish! That is all there is to
the Barnes story of success!"
THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO THE BARNES STORY OF SUCCESS!
Determine what we want, burn all bridges, stake our entire future on our ability to get what we want.
As Michael Dlouhy says, "If you knew you could not fail, how differently would you live your life?"
We would live like a KING!
