Chapter 10 - Thoughts Are Things
Barnes did not get his partnership with Edison
on his first interview. He did get a chance to work
in the Edison offices, at a very nominal wage,
doing work that was unimportant to Edison, but
most important to Barnes, because it gave him
an opportunity to display his “merchandise” where
his intended “partner” could see it.
Months went by. Apparently nothing happened
to bring the coveted goal which Barnes had set
up in his mind as his DEFINITE MAJOR PURPOSE.
But something important was happening in Barnes’
mind. He was constantly intensifying his DESIRE
to become the business associate of Edison.
Psychologists have correctly said that “when one
is truly ready for a thing, it puts in its appearance.”
Barnes worked every day even though he did not
see his achieved goal for quite a while. Obviously
he wanted it, but was he ready for it? Maybe he
had to have some personal growth. Maybe he had
to learn more about the industry. Maybe he had to
become more of a people person so others could
know, like and trust him. When Barnes was truly
ready for his success, that success finally put in
its appearance and Barnes achieved his goal of
becoming a business partner with Edison.
We are in the same situation as Barnes? If we are
not where we want to be in life, we may not truly
be ready for it to put in its appearance. Maybe we
need personal growth, knowledge about the industry
and how to relate to people so they too will get to
know, like and trust us.
Is our desire as strong as Barnes? Are we really
willing to put in the time until we achieve.
Maybe we don't have the amount of time we would
like, but is that going to stop us from pursuing our
goals. Do we find the time, even if it is only a few
minutes here and there?
Robert Kraft said about reaching dreams "A lot of
people have their big dreams and get knocked down
and don't have things go their way. And you never
give up hope, and you really just hold on to it. Hard
work and perserverance. You just keep getting up
and getting up, and then you get that breakthrough."
Barnes got his breakthrough because he kept his
dream in the forefront of his mind, put in the time, the
effort and growth and he was ready when his dream
showed up.
Erin Cummings wrote "At the end of the day, you
are solely responsible for your success and your
failure. And the sooner you realize that, you accept
that, and integrate that into your work ethic, you will
start being successful. As long as you blame others
for the reason you aren't where you want to be, you
will always be a failure."
Keep our dreams alive and keep moving one step at
a time and when we are ready for success, it will put
in its appearance and it all begins with a thought.
Barnes had a thought and he never blamed anyone
else and he never gave up.
Christopher Reeve wrote "Don't give up. Don't lose
hope. Don't sell out.

Just use this mlm truth on creating your own success today NOT tommorow and remember that you are responsible for your own success, no one else. Because networking is friends telling friends about a good movie, a good restaurant, a wonderful vacation, etc...
