Chapter 9 - Persistence
Spring is a beautiful time of year. You can see the trees begin to have leaves and
some have blossoms, the grass is turning green and the Robins return from their winter
migration to build their nest for their upcoming families. One of the things I see
that amazes me are the weeds that grow in the most unlikely places. If you look at
some driveways that are paved you will see a tiny crack and out of that crack will
pop up something green, usually a weed. We can plant flowers and vegetables
and they don't always come up as we would like but that weed will grow where we
think they have no nourishment or water. Just like looking at the mountains when
we drive, every once in a while you will see a tree growing in the higher part of the
mountain where it looks like it just grows out of the rock. You cannot see any grass,
earth or water on that part of the mountain but there is the tree, just like the weed
growing in the most unlikely place. That is persistence.
Aisha Tyler says "Success is not the absence of failure; it's the persistence through failure."
Are we like the weed that does not care what is around it, what obstacles are on top of it?
That weed just sees the light and pushes through to its desire. Do we care what obstacles
are around us, pushing us down or do we just push through to reach our desires?
We have all heard the saying "Bloom where you are planted.”
Hill writes "lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. Moreover, experience
with thousands of people has proved that lack of persistence is a weakness common to
the majority of men. It is a weakness which may be overcome by effort. The ease
with which lack of persistence may be conquered will depend entirely upon the INTENSITY
OF ONE’S DESIRE"
Bill Bradley tells us "Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in."
Sometimes we just have to be like the weed, pushing forward regardless of what surrounds us.
